English Bulldog price: what a puppy costs

The price of a Bulldog puppy reflects how it was bred and raised, not only how it looks. This guide explains what drives the price, what it should include and what owning a Bulldog costs afterwards, so you can compare offers on substance.

What decides the price

Most of a Bulldog’s price comes from the cost of raising a litter responsibly. Many Bulldog litters are delivered by caesarean section and litters are often small. Health assessments of both parents, veterinary checks, vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and weeks of daily care all come before a puppy leaves home, and pedigree registration with a recognised kennel club adds a further cost. Differences between breeders usually reflect how much of this work was actually done.

What a fair price should include

Before paying anything, ask for a written list. As a minimum, expect a microchip registered to you, an EU pet passport, the vaccination and deworming record, a veterinary health check and a written contract that states what happens if a health problem appears. Pedigree papers, a supply of the food the puppy already eats and continued advice from the breeder are common additions. Anything not written down should not be assumed.

Colour, size and “exotic” labels

Higher prices for rare colours, “mini” sizes or “exotic” Bulldogs say nothing about health. Some of these colours fall outside the breed standard, and selecting for extremes of size or shape can add to the breed’s health risks. Judge a puppy by the parents’ breathing, movement and records, not by its colour.

Why a very low price is a warning sign

A puppy offered far below other breeders, especially with pressure to pay quickly, often means steps were skipped: no health checks on the parents, a puppy separated from its mother too early, or no traceable breeder at all. Online scams using stolen photos are also common. Always speak to the breeder, see the puppy’s environment in person or on a live video call, and check the documents before sending money.

What a Bulldog costs after you bring it home

The purchase price is only the beginning. Budget for good food, routine veterinary care, vaccinations, parasite prevention and pet insurance, which is worth arranging early because many policies exclude problems noticed before cover starts. Bulldogs can need treatment for breathing, skin, eye or joint problems during their life, so keep a reserve for unexpected veterinary bills.
